3. Putting AI to Work

You don't have to overhaul your practice to begin exploring AI. Start with low-risk tasks where AI can help you brainstorm, organize, draft or simplify work you already do.

COMMUNICATIONS

  • Draft emails and responses

  • Simplify complex language

  • Brainstorm frequently asked questions

  • Create first drafts of educational materials

PRACTICE OPERATIONS

  • Create checklists and draft Standard Operationg Procedures
  • Build meeting agendas
  • Develop staff-training outlines
  • Brainstorm ways to improve a workflow

MARKETING & CONTENT

  • Brainstorm social media ideas
  • Draft newsletter content
  • Develop article outlines
  • Generate ideas for community education

LEARNING & RESEARCH

  • Explain unfamiliar concepts
  • Summarize material you provide
  • Generate search terms
  • Brainstorm questions for further research

Remember: AI-generated material is a starting point. Review, verify and adapt the output before using it in your practice.

TRY A BETTER PROMPT

Instead of:
“Write a social media post.”

Try:
“Draft a friendly 100-word Facebook post for a chiropractic practice explaining three ways patients can make their workspace more comfortable. Use plain language, avoid medical claims, and end with one practical takeaway.”

Remember: Better prompts provide context. Tell the AI what you want it to do, who the audience is, what information it should use, and what the finished result should look like.

4. USE AI RESPONSIBLY

AI can be a powerful tool -- when used with care and professional judgement.

~

PROTECT PATIENT INFORMATION

Be cautious about entering patient information into AI tools. When a third-party technology company creates, receives, maintains or transmits protected health information on behalf of a covered healthcare provider, HIPAA business-associate requirements may apply. HHS specifically identifies third-party AI chatbots that handle PHI for healthcare providers among its examples of potential business associates.

Verify
Outputs

AI can generate inaccurate, incomplete or even fabricated information while presenting it convincingly. Check important facts, citations, clinical information and other consequential content against reliable sources before using it.

Maintain Professional Judgment

AI can support your work, but it should not replace your professional judgment. Consider the consequences of an error when deciding whether AI is appropriate for a particular task and how closely its output needs to be reviewed.

Understand the Tools You Use

Before incorporating an AI product into your practice, understand what it is designed to do, what information it accesses, how that information is handled, its limitations and how its output will be reviewed.

Before You Adopt a New AI Tool

New AI products are appearing quickly. Before adding one to your practice, consider the problem you're trying to solve, the information the tool will access, its privacy and security practices, the reliability of its output, and who will be responsible for reviewing its work.

Start small. Test thoughtfully. Keep people in the loop.

AI and emerging technologies are evolving rapidly.
